PROUD TO BE A TROJAN!

The boys' tennis team competed in the National All-American tournament in Newport Beach this past weekend.  Uni lost 4-5 to the Menlo School of Atherton, Ca in the championship final.  The real story of the tournament however, wasn't the score(s) of each match but rather the resolve, fortitude and resilience of the Uni tennis program.  The Trojans beat The Providence Day School from North Carolina 8 -0 in the 1st round.  In the 2nd round the Trojans faced a very talented La Jolla high school team, winning 4-4 on games.  In the semi-final match the Trojans defeated The Harvard-Westlake School 7 - 1.  The championship match was a rematch with the Knights from Menlo. Both teams were missing top players and were exhausted from playing three previous matches earlier in the day. Uni's top player, Gage Brymer, was competing in the supernationals in Mobile, Alabama (Gage had another incredible tournament, losing in the semi-final match.) and was unavailable for this tournament.  Team captain and Uni's #2 player, Stefan Menichella, played the whole tournament with a cast on his broken left arm.  #3 Tyler Lu also sat out the final match with an elbow/shoulder injury as did #5 Arash Hafezi with an abdominal pull.  The depleted Trojans played with a lot of heart and Trojan pride. Drew Dawson, who had an incredible tournament, was named to the All-Tournament team along with Stefan Menichella.  Congratulations to The Menlo School on a hard fought victory.

Thank you to all of our Uni parents and supporters who stayed until 10:45pm for the end of the final match.  As always, we appreciate your support.

2011

 "HISTORIC SEASON FOR UNI BOYS"

The University high school boys' tennis program just completed a season for the record books. This accomplishment includes winning every team championship as well as almost every individual title.

The team won the following titles... The National boys' high school title with a dominating 7 to 1 finals win against the Menlo School of Atherton, California in March.  In April, Uni won the prestigious Ojai Valley Tournament "Griggs Cup" for the 2nd year in a row.  In early May the Trojans won their 6th straight Pacific Coast League title.  This is arguably the toughest boys' high school tennis league in the nation.  In June, the boys capped off the season winning another CIF title defeating The Harvard-Westlake School of Los Angeles 14 to 4.  This was the 4th CIF title in the last 5 years for the Trojans and 7th in the last 12 years.

Individually, Gage Brymer won the Ojai Valley singles title.  This was the first time a Uni player has won this tournament.  Brymer also won the Pacific Coast League singles title defeating teammate Stefan Menichella.  Kona Luu and Drew Dawson won the PCL doubles title defeating teammates Ryo Shimizu and Tyler Lu.  Luu and Dawson also won the CIF doubles championship marking the first time that a Uni team has won this event.  Gage Brymer also won the CIF singles title.  This is the first time that a Uni player has won this tournament.  The last time that a Southern California team won a singles and doubles title plus a team championship was in 1995!

Congratulations to all of our boys for making this a special season and making Uni the #1 boys tennis program in the nation.  We are so proud of all of you.

Reynolds high school from Winston Salem, North Carolina.  The score this year was the same as last year, Uni 7 and R.J. THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON

The University Varsity tennis team finished the regular season winning their 51st straight dual match!!!!  The Trojans finished at 19 and 0 overall and 8 and 0 in the Pacific Coast League.

The JV team finished an incredible season with a record of 23 wins and 0 losses!  This is the 5th year in a row that the JV team has not lost a match.  This is impressive considering that we play in the always tough Pacific Coast League and have a very difficult non-league schedule.

Congratulations to all of our boys on a truly remarkable season!
